Combat Your Dry Winter Skin

You don’t need your weather app to tell you it’s winter. It can be brutal with all of the dry air, cold winds and stuffy indoor heat. Trends change from season to season, as does the quality of our skin. Which is why it’s super important to adjust your skin care routine accordingly.

My entire life, I have suffered from dry skin – no matter the season. I’ve tried the cheap drugstore creams to the expensive creams prescribed by my dermatologist. I’ve tried them all. At one point the only thing that worked was the tanning bed*. So with many years of trial and error, these are my tips on how to combat your dry winter skin.

1. Wear a hydrating mask 2-3 times a week.

While applying a quality moisturizer day and night is super important, sometimes skin needs an extra boost of hydration. This GlamGlow THIRSTYMUD HYDRATING TREATMENT uses their most advanced hydration active technologies, providing deep instant Hydration. THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrates, Moisturizes, Restores, Replenishes & Calms the skin. Designed for Men & Women. New Super Technologies in THIRSTYMUD™ will leave you with Hydrated Heart Pounding Glowing Skin. So as you let it sit for twenty minutes, your skin absorbs a ton of hydrating ingredients deep beneath the surface.

2. Gently exfoliate 1-2 times a week.

Because skin can get dry in the winter, it’s important to remove away dead skin cells in order to allow skin to better lock in moisture. Gently exfoliating skin with BURT’S BEES Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub is a great solution. After washing your face, dip a washcloth in warm water and gently rub your skin in circular motions. It’s clinically proven to exfoliate dead skin cells while refining the appearance of pores without over-drying or irritating skin. Salicylic Acid, derived naturally from Willow Bark Extract, penetrates deep into pores to help reduce acne and prevent future breakouts. Giving you refined, clear and smooth skin.

4. Use a soothing body wash.

A great body wash can sooth and replenish your dry skin. We absolutely love Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap Body Wash to cleanse, hydrate and calm problem skin. It helps to balance your skin for a clearer appearance. Made with natural and certified organic ingredients. Aloe moisturizes and calms dry sensitive skin, while vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant highly effective in protecting skin from free radical damage.

Although tempting, hot baths and showers can actually dry your skin even more. Of course, you don’t need to take cold showers, just make sure the temperature doesn’t get too hot and try not to stay in for too long.

4. Drink lots of water.

Hydration starts from the inside, so drinking plenty of water throughout the day is the most effective way to keep your skin healthy. Try adding fruit or herbs to add flavor to your water!

5. Moisturize in the AM & PM.

Replenishing your skin with a quality moisturizer is one of the most important things you can do. Cetaphil’s Moisturizing Cream contains a superior system of extra-strength emollients and humectants clinically proven to bind water to the skin and prevent moisture loss. The result is long-lasting relief for even severely dry skin. The non-greasy formula is excellent for intensive moisturization.

*AHHH I know, tanning beds are awful and so incredibly bad for you skin. I was desperate. But I can proudly say NEVER AGAIN!!
